The ANIMALS
Our animals - sheep, ducks, and chickens - are from heritage breeds. Most of our breeds are listed as “rare” or “endangered” by the
American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
They are all raised naturally - no hormones or antibiotics. All of them depend on grazing for a major part of their diet.
Sheep
Our sheep are Horned Dorsets originally from the south of England. They are a dual-purpose breed, which means they are prized for both their meat and their wool.
We lamb around Christmas time...
Chickens
Our chickens are Delawares and New Hampshires, which lay big brown eggs, and Ameraucanas, which lay blue or green eggs. All are American in origin.
Ducks
Our ducks are American Buffs and Rouens. If you’ve never had a duck egg, you’re missing a treat. They’re richer than chicken eggs and make the most wonderful custards, lemon curds, and quiches.
